This behavior could be caused by an overloaded shared server I’d suspect.

I don’t think that’s the case in re-reviewing this thread. I’d sure like to know what the cause is, though... any ideas?

It sounds to me as if the browser is registering one or more JavaScript errors and then (silently) disabling JavaScript. This could happen due to an actual error in some file, or a corrupted or incomplete up/download, restrictive security policies, or any number of other things I guess. Do people who experience this see JavaScript errors registered by their browser (Firefox in particular is great for investigating these)?

Apologies for not tracking this thread more closely.

My memory of this problem is not 100%. It’s possible there were some javascript errors -- Opera’s error console is a very shy beastie. If I had duplicated the issue in FF then Firebug would probably have shown the cause.

I’m going to upgrade to 0.9.6RC3 ... Final soon and I’ll see if it happens again.

Incomplete upload is only a slight possibility. I uploaded to (mt)’s gridserver using SVN and then exported it to the site root dir. I also had the problem on my local setup, in which mootools.js was then edited by hand to resolve it.

As for security policies, no policy change was involved in resolving the problem and I generally encounter a lot of complex javascript on the web which causes no problem. I do have an ad-blocker (Ad-Muncher) which rewrites javascript but that was disabled.

So I’m still guessing it’s a download thing. Could there be an easy client-side way to ’require()’ the necessary js libraries? Perhaps the whole idea of ’progressive enhancement’ could be applied to broaden MODx’s appeal as development goes forward.

        Just a thought smiley

I’ve had a similar problem with TinyMCE not loading and it was due to an incomplete/bad FTP upload. So it could be anything between Dreamhost, my ISP, SmartFTP Client or some other obscure causes. It’s a very frustrating issue because you don’t really expect an FTP transfer to fail silently... Maybe some sort of integrity check could come with the installer API, if there is ever such API wink
