I am running JOT version 1.1.2 on a newly developed MODx 0961p2 site and everything appears to be working fine. I would like to make a couple of modifications however (see below) and - despite reviewing the literature - am not totally sure how to proceed. Any help would be appreciated.
The basic JOT call I am currently using is as follows:
[!Jot? &subscribe=`1` &pagination=`10` &captcha=`1` &moderated=`1` &css=`1`!]
Question 1
I would like to have it that an email notification is sent to the main site administrator whenever a new comment is submitted. According to the JOT Wiki, it seems that the ¬ify and &canmoderate parameters need to be included in the JOT call in order for this to happen. But it is still not exactly clear to me how to make the appropriate specifications. Where, for instance, do you specify the email address? Should I be creating a template parameter that lists the adminstrator email address? Is there more than one way to accomplish this?
Question 2
By default, the ’Subject’ field is the only required field in the standard JOT form. I would like to also make the email field required. Again, following the Wiki directive, I added the following parameter (exactly as it appears) to the end of the basic JOT call:
&validate=`content:You forgot to enter a comment, email:Please enter a valid email address.:email`
This did not do the trick however; Although theform still requires the Content field, it has not added the email field as required. Anyone have a sense for why this did not work?
Question 3
While reading through the forum I noticed a posting in which someone said they were hit with as many as 600 spam messages via JOT. I have utilized JOT by posting the call within a chunk and then embedding the chunk within the document (page) that gets viewed. What other reasonable steps can be taken to protect oneself here?
Thanks again very much for any relevant advice. The existing MODx documentation is informative, but, particularly for a newbie, some of the procedural details are a bit lacking.
i’m also stuck trying to get an email field into comments - getting a little desperate actually - up on a deadline - have spent an hour googling and here and none the wiser.. meanwhile my poor daughter is begging me to make dinner (I’m completely heartless, and not beyond emotional blackmail)
This front end guy would really, really appreciate some advice!!
thanks
