I’ve added the facility to notify the document author when a comment is posted. The e-mail address is taken from the author’s Manager User account details.
The modified code is attached, and I’ve incremented the version number to distinguish.
There are three new parameters:
¬ifyAuthor - 1 / 0 (default 0) - send an e-mail to the author when new comment is made
&subjectAuthor - text - subject line for the author notification e-mail
&tplNotifyAuthor - template for the author notification e-mail
Would anyone like to review it, before putting it into the repository?

That sounds like a great addition ncrossland and one definitely worth adding. I think individuals using it for blogging will be quite happy with that!

Definitely a great improvement, I’ll test and probably switch to it !

Nice work, you got my vote!
Pretty much tight up in the Jot 2.x (= MODx 0.9.7 >) branch right now so anyone that is willing to contribute to Jot 1.x be my guest.

Great. Will 2.x have more flexible notification features like this?

My view on it now is that for 2.x notifications/subscriptions will be a seperate add-on (for MODx 0.9.7>). The idea behind this is that you can subscribe to everything the subscription add-on can be attached to (including Jot). Jot 2.x will mainly focus on being a highly configurable comment add-on (including a manager backend).
