I do not favor bloated apps either, but creating users and setting-up an editable page for each of them is in the minds of many evaluating MODx, thus it would greatly help its diffusion having such features work out-the-box; before dealing with UserGroup/docGroup permissions and understanding how snippets/plugins/modules work, where to find them, how to install them etc...
