I am new to the world of CMS and I would like to know how people manage news archiving.

If you add, say, 1 news item per day then after a couple of months you are going to end up with a pretty huge list of pages. I would assume therefore that, periodically, pages would be moved from the news folder to an archive folder.

    My questions regarding this are:

    1. What is the best way to structure this?
    2. Can it be done automatically?

Ideally I would want all the news items to flow smoothly together for display without requiring a separate page for each archive.

    Thanks very much.

There’s two ways to handle it easily right now:

      1) Use Mark’s snippet that creates paged lists of news articles.
      2) Manually move news articles into archive folders.

What we need is a variation on 1 that archives by date, automatically, and maybe even some sort of automatic archiving mover as a variation of #2.
