    we are working on a video based site (no adult) and the player is written in flash. The home page and many other pages will be in Modx. The development of the flash appis at http://visible.tv/videoplayer/player_english.html (name:visible pass:visiblevisible) . the last hurdle that we need to overcome is how to integrate jot with the flash app video player so someone can comment when in the flash app. My flash programmer says that he can integrate jot if he has access to the database.

    I was hoping that someone could anticipate any problems that we may have in advance or suggestions? the flash programmer has not worked with ajax or modx - we are working with someone else to do the modx work and integration. in another post, this was one solution - but the xml seems complicated. can’t we just access the db files? Thanks in advance...

    @RSG:

    You could look into using the Jot component for commenting. All you would need is a way to get the video (and whatever additional) content needed for the Flash presentation into your Flash movie. I’ve done this on a few projects myself by simply sending dynamic XML responses from a MODx document I created with the purpose of retrieving what Flash needed to present (e.g. based on the request parameters and/or page id).

      I believe all comment data is stored in the SQL database. You could either write a custom front controller for your flash app or perhaps an easier solution would be to create a jot template but use RSS/XML syntax.

      Although I’m not quite done, I’ve done something similar for my blog as you can see in my individual post feed: http://brianstanback.com/remarks.rss?docid=9

      I’m not sure if flash has any builtin XML parsing functionality but this would provide a nice, standardized way of viewing comments. As for posting of new comments, I would assume the flash app could send a post request directly to a page containing the Jot snippet code.

        what would the custom front controller or RSS/SML syntax do? the key it seems to me is the last line of your last post that suggested posting of new comments would be done via a simple post request within the flash app. When that occurs, it seems to me, the empty new comment box with any existing comments would list below the flash app. The only missing element is the number of comments for each video that should appear within the flash app. And this could be determined from the SQL database. Does this make sense?

        thanks,
