    Hi,

I haven’t found any thread on the forum regarding Akismet. Has anyone ever tried to integrate this into Jot? I get spammed alot on my Jot comment pages (all moderated, but still annoying). Akismet seems like a good centralised solution.

    Anyone?

Someone else also just brought up Bad Behavior which seems like a great compliment as well. I’d love to see them both ported.

Late to the game but I am wondering how hard this would be. I have looked at several class libraries for the Akismet-API and think that this would be fairly easy to integrate into Jot as another class file. There would need be a new POST required as well to send the data to the api-key.rest.akismet.com/1.1/comment-check

          Here are the links:

I personally think that Akismet works better than BadBehavior and SpamKarma. Looking at the core and the documentation for Jot, I don’t think that it would be hard to create a new Akismet Param to allow it be on. You could stick in the new class files and either a module to insert the config information or just place the api-key in the param and fetch the other data from the db-api.

I would like to build this in myself but if more experienced proggies could point me in the right direction that would be a help.

This is all part of my personal ongoing effort to collect and create a WordPress-like blog (a real one [possibly with a K2 port as well--who knows?]) with all the same out-of-the-box features it has but in the MODx way and then document how to set it up for newbs.

Did you make any progress on this? I have a few "real" blog projects coming up, and the built in captcha just doesn’t cut it. Was thinking about replacing it with reCAPTCHA, but Akismet might actually be more useful. If you got started or need help, let me know. Otherwise... I’ll see if we can pull it off on our end.

Brett, I’d check into the spam protected contact form that Bob Ray did for anti-spam measures to consider. I’d also look at Defensio as a possible alternative to Akismet that doesn’t require a Wordpress account.
