Thanks for that have added it (&id=`wp`)now thinking that was that but still the same issue,

Its like the results have been cached and whatever I select it just outputs the same order undecided

Thanks so much for your help is there any thing else left to try.

Your ditto call are missing dateFilter extender: &extenders=`summary,dateFilter`

That was it &extenders=`summary,dateFilter`

I did not understand the extenders well enough, the tutorials work on the theory that most people have a fairly good understanding already, anyway thanks for your help it’s really appreciated what a great feeling when you suddenly resolve a problem.

[edit] with &id=`wp` in my ditto call I lost the page pagination I changed that to &id=`blog` and then my placeholders had this name added like this

<div id="ditto_pages">
Showing [+blog_start+] - [+blog_stop+] of [+blog_total+] Articles
[+blog_previous+] [+blog_pages+] [+blog_next+]
 </div>

Now all perfect
