Ditto MODx Parse Error

Trying to update the CMS from 0.9.6 to 1.03 .... and brought to its knees. Unfortunately, wasn’t able to roll back either.

Tried to follow "policy for help" but all the links are dead. Thought maybe there was an update to Ditto, so tried to find a standalone download...but only 3.0 for Revolution seems to be in existence.

10pm on a Sunday night....needless to say, a bit frustrated at the moment.

After going through the upgrade process (base method of installing over existing), was able to get into manager no problem. However, trying to go to the site with any page with a Ditto call on it (which is most of them), resulted in a nasty:

"MODx Parse Error
Missing Argument 18 for determineides()
Line 571"

Related file was the ditto.class.inc.php.

Tried stripping out the ditto elements, and verified them to make sure they were still current... nothing fancy here, parents, depth, display, summarize and tpl... about as basic as it gets. But nothing worked. Had to basically comment out the ditto calls to at least let the site limp along.

Unfortunately, now I won’t be able to touch it much until the evenings.

Any help appreciated.

I presume that you did a backup of the site before you upgraded? Upload the original ditto folder from assets/snippets/ditto, and dig into the sql dump for the original Ditto snippet code and replace the new snippet code in the Manager.

When I’m doing an upgrade across several versions like that, I never upgrade the snippets; I don’t upload the assets/snippets folder and I clear those checkboxes during the upgrade. After the upgrade, then I manually upgrade the snippets if I feel it’s necessary to upgrade them at all.

This became quite the cluster. Kind of kluged it all back together, and snagged the snippet code from another site and pasted it back in. For now, it seems to work...looks like the upgrade may take a little more time than I had originally hoped.

Back to the drawing board. Boy, what I’d give for smooth upgrades! But I know, unlike Santa and Big Foot, they don’t exist.

As long as the third-party addons get updated with differences in their parameter lists and behavior, they will be impossible to upgrade smoothly. That’s why I don’t upload/upgrade them when upgrading across a long interval.
