RSS Feed confusion

I’m trying to setup an RSS Feed for some of my news.
I was following the example in the wiki - although, I see the feed in the preview - when entering the url in the browser, I’m just taken back to the front page.

Looking at the source code, I’m getting this: <link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="j-cons RSS feed" href="rss.xml.html"> - I don’t know why the .html is added - the alias is only rss.xml - anything else I need to do to get this working.

I’ve friendly urls turned on and the suffix is set to .html - however, I think this should not be added if the content type is set to xml, shouldn’t it?

I guess I miss something here.

I’ve got the .rss & .xml files having .html added to the end of the url but it doesn’t stop them working in the front end.
e.g. http://www.crickweb.co.uk/news.rss.html & http://www.crickweb.co.uk/sitemap.xml.html

I’ve since used the SEO Strict Plug In and it allows the .xml ending without the furl’s suffix of .html
