I’m wondering about the best way to implement this. I have a single Ditto news item on the front page of a site that requires a user to login to see all other news. The news item is a teaser for non-subscribed visitors and it will be updated 4-6 times per week.
To display the news item, I have to make the page public within the MODx file system. This isn’t a problem, but is there a way I can automate the process of turning a page private once a new item appears? Alternatively, a once-a-week clean-up or something? Although the page will only display the latest item, I’d prefer to resecure the other pages.
Any suggestions?

You can automate publication and unpublication in the Manager, but I don’t know of any way of automating group membership for documents. You can assign and unassign multiple documents to groups easily with the DocManager module.
You could also write a custom snippet that would change the group membership of docs in bulk but it would involve modifying the DB directly.
