      1. Make a backup of your config.inc.php file (just to be sure)
      2. Make a backup of your database (just to be sure)
      3. Copy all the new files over the old (overwrite when asked)
      4. Run the installer and select update (www.yourdomain.com/install)
      5. Remove the install dir if its not done by the installer
      6. Thats it.

step 1 and 2 are not essetial but are wize steps in the slim case that somthing does mess up the install (like a terminated internet conection etc)

      hope that this helps,

FYI, it’s not done yet, but we are planning a full blown upgrade and staging-to-deployment server migration guide for the new support site at modxcms.com. Thanks for helping push this one up in the priority queue... and definitely a great question and response. Thanks!

            DONT FORGET
make a copy from assets/site/style.css whith the changes in the site template css (if not it wil be lost if no backup)

              Hi xyzvisual

I would recommend that you put your template stuff inside the assets/templates/{templatename}/ folder, where {templatename} is the name of your template (without spaces or special characters)

              example

              assets/templates/bluetheme/styles.css
