Stumped! Custom placeholder values not displaying

But here’s something I can’t explain.

I’m displaying items from a product catalogue, with each product on a page with the TVs applied to that product page template. I’m using logical TV names like "itemThumbnail", "itemPrice", "itemImage", etc, etc and of course none of the values were displaying. However, I’ve just discovered, by removing the "item" from each TV name (and in the tpl chunk) they’re now displaying (and there weren’t any duplicate TV names). So problem solved, although my naming scheme has been blown out of the water. Any ideas as to why this is so. A bug?

Not sure why that would happen, but another thing to try is to put "tv" in front of your template variable when calling it, e.g. [+tvitemThumbnail+], I’ve been caught out with that before
