splitter tag showing up in text

the "splitter" tag is splitting the text, but in the long text <!-- splitter --> is showing up in the middle of the paragraph.

any one know why

You probably copied that into the Rich Text editor, and it’s actually not a plain HTML comment tag at all, but the RTE "helpfully" converted the tags to html entities (&lt; and &gt;), so instead of being "hidden" like an HTML comment should be, it’s showing. Use the HTML button in the RTE toolbar, and fix it.

Basically, if you can see any HTML tags in your RTE field when editing a document, it’s been converted and will show just the same in your actual web page.
