How to add a new manager feature?

Is there currently a way to add a custom feature to the manager without hijacking core files? For instance, I have a custom routine to import files into a custom database table, but I’d like it to be accessible to manager users, via the manager interface? It would probably be a good feature to allow users to add menu items to custom manager pages, if this is not currently possible without the hijacking.

I thought this was going to be with the new module system or am I wrong here?

This should in fact be part of the next Tech Preview... I’m anxiously awaiting another round of commits to SVN by Raymond.
