Multiple Installs of Ditto, different versions

Hi all, I was recently going through a test using tvEditor and tvExplorer on a life site, and was a bit hesitant to make changes to ditto’s core as it was needed for the latest version on a live site. I know i shouldn’t be making tests on a live site hehe, but still u know sometimes it is faster that way, so beat me down and punish me for being lazy.

Anyways, my question is... what would be the correct way to have multiple installs of ditto under the same environment? maybe different versions or even the same version as a duplicate to do tests.

The problems I ran into was the obvious redeclaration of the ditto class which already existed, but I am sure just changing the class name wouldn’t do the trick so I just stopped there to give it some thought.

Then I imagine that someone else must have for sure tried this in the past, so wanted to get some information on what the best approach to achieve this would be.

I appreciate any directions.

You can only have one install of Ditto running on one page at a time without modifying all of the class names. If you don’t need both on one page, you can have more than one Ditto codebase by changing the base path variable.

So if I want to have two columns of Ditto lists, one from one section and one from another, I can’t do that?

With the same Ditto install you can call [[Ditto]] as many times on a page as you wish. But if you want to have two separate installs (ie DittoA and DittoB each with modified classes) then it is not possible as you can’t declare the same class twice.

Hey Mark, thanks for your reply, I figured that much, I was just wondering if someone had done it by modifying the class names and functions and so on to have parallel installation. Which i guess not then.
