Ditto menuindex sorting

I have the following document structure:

Magazine1 (1)
-article 1 (1)
--page 1 (1)
--page 2 (2)
-article 2 (1)
--page1(1)
--page2 (2)

Magazine 2 (2)
-article 1 (1)
--page 1 (1)
--page 2 (2)
--page 3 (3)
-article 2 (1)
--page1 (1)
--page2 (2)


Where numbers in () are menuindex’es.

I want ditto to reflect this structure.

when i say &sortBy=`menuindex` ditto, well, sorts, but it makes all nesting flat.


Please advice!

In short, Ditto can’t show hierarchy as it flattens all of the results into one linear stream. A more fitting snippet would be Wayfinder as it can display hierarchy.

The simpliest way i’ve found out is to call ditto recursively. Depth level is only 2, so i think it is not big speed issue. I just wander is this right ideologically.

Wayfinder does a fine job; it also uses chunks for view templates and can display different variables as desired.
