Set Max size of photo in Ditto summary or web front page

Hello Community,

I’ve been using Modx for about 3 months now and love it after failing to completely tame the Typo3 beast after just over a year. I’ve now converted more than half of my Typo3 sites to Modx (about 14 sites).

I have just one issue in understanding Modx ... particularly the Ditto/NewsPublisher snippets.

I would like to post news items with images, get the images to show up at full size in the article page, but have them set to a max size in the news summary page and the front page.

I have a feeling that the solution has something to do with a TV, but it eludes me up to this time.

You can create a TV to hold your thumbnail and assign it an image type widget. In your Ditto chunk-template, reference the thumbnail; in the detailed page, show the full size image (presumably from another TV).

You can also do some interesting things with .htaccess and a PHP image resizing script to dynamically resize and cache the created thumbnails, but that’s a lot more advanced and I unfortunately don’t have the time to go through that ATM.

You could install PHx plugin (if you don’t have it installed yet) and then the phpThumb PHx modifier. Then in your Ditto template, you could use the phpThumb modifier on the imageTV what holds the full size image to set some size limit to it to use in ditto listing.. That’s fairly easy to set up.
