I’m new to MODx and in the process of trying to get the hang of it.

I’d like to whitelabel the CMS so that there is no mention of MODx (use my branding instead).

    Is this:

    • Frowned upon?
    • Legal with the GPL 2.0 license?
    • Possible?

I’d be more than willing to make a donation or purchase a commercial license (is one available?) if that’s what it takes.

Edit: I have seen the Copyright thread (http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,41928.0.html), but I’d like to take the whitelabeling a bit further than simply removing the MODx logo; I wish to remove *all* mentions of MODx that a person may see in the admin area. (Copyright notices in the PHP code would remain of course.) Also, it doesn’t seem there has been a solid response or update on whitelabeling since 2009.

Are you ashamed of using MODX? embarrassed

I haven’t started using it yet, but no, not at all. I simply want to brand it as my own (and I’m willing to pay.)

        If it’s not possible, that’s perfectly O.K.

There has been talk about the team offering a white label version in the past but I don’t think it is available yet. It would be perfectly possible to remove all mention of the modx name by editing the relevant files, but at this point until the official white label version I’m not sure on the legal side of it, and I would say it most definitely wouldn’t be ethical.

As you say if someone is willing to pay for it, it would be a great income stream for the team probably not mega bucks as I think most users would still use the free labelled version, I know I would, and maybe the amount of time and effort they would need to make it easy without editing files is not worth the income they would get.

Only the core team can answer some of those Q’s.
