phx file type detect

Lets say somebody uploads a .swf file or a .jpg file. What I am trying to figure out using phx is to detect what file type it is then display different content according to the file type.

I believe you could arrange this by creating your own custom modifier http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/PHx#Creating_a_custom_modifier

I created a modifier called php:getExtension here is the code below. What i am not sure is how to call it. I want to pass a TV to it was also trying to test it like this but it isn’t working.

`myfile.gif`:getExtension

<?php
 if(strlen($options)>0)
 {
	$pos = strpos($options, ".");
	$strLgn=strlen($options);
	$output=substr($options,$pos,$strLgn-1);
	return $output;
 }
 ?>
