Looking for input on the best way to approach something like this:
I had hacked together an Eto snippet based on ListIndexer (
http://www.etomite.org/browsesnippets.html?int_snipid=35&lst_category=10 ), which essentially lets me list child documents from a number of different folders (and to a settable level depth) all at once, sorted by date or alpha as I choose. I replaced it’s display code with something similar to the Eto "NewsListing".
The goal being, from the home page, I could list the latest articles from anywhere in the site (at least the folders I defined). Or on any sub-site page, I could list all the latest articles for that sub-site folder structure. Or for any specific section, I could show an alpha-sorted index of all the subfolders.
I further hacked it so I would be able to exclude "folders", and to be able to display "references" (aka links) in a different format. The outcome of that hacking is here:
http://www.etomite.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=3404 (-- Ralph supplied further input with an aggragator he wrote- "ListDocuments", that used the Eto DB API, but I’ve been sidetracked with ModX’s features
, and haven’t tried to set that up on my straight Eto enviro.)
At any rate, it looks like I’ll also need to do this via DB calls in ModX -- am I correct? Or are there other API functions that I’m just not seeing that could help me on my way a little more easily?
And if I just wanted a list from one "top" folder, but multiple levels deep, would that make it any easier for me? Has anyone else tried this?
