I’m new to modx and could really use some guidance. I found some similar posts but couldn’t find any clear answers on how to accomplish this.
Imagine a nav structure like this:
-Top Level
-Sub Level
-Sub Sub Level
-Sub Sub Level
-Sub Level
-Sub Sub Level
-Sub Sub Level
-Sub Level
-Sub Sub Level
-Sub Sub Level
Clicking on Top Level would reveal the three Sub Level menu items, then clicking on one a Sub Level Item would reveal it’s respective Sub Sub Level items.
The problem is the different levels need to be on different parts of the page. See the screen shot.
I know wayfinder can do that hard work for me, I just can’t seem to figure out how.
Thanks for any help or guidance.
you can try this at your Template for level 3, as shown in your example:
nav1:
[[Wayfinder? &startId=`0` &level=`1`]]
nav2:
[!Wayfinder? &startId=`[[UltimateParent? &topLevel=`2`]]` &level=`1`!]
nav3:
[[Wayfinder? &startId=`[*parent*]` &level=`1`]]
Thanks for the help.. I feel like I’m on the right track, but there are some issues with the code I tried.
Here’s what’s happening:
-Clicking on the "top level" link displays the correct sub level navigation items.. so all good there.
-Clicking on a second level link causes the second level links to disappear and to be replaced with the third level, or to disappear if the second level link doesn’t have any child links.
I’ll attach some screen shots that will make much more sense. (the template in the screen shot is from a nettuts tutorial)
Also, the menus behave the same way whether the code you gave me for nav3 is present or not.
I noticed your referencing a chunk in the third code block.. should I be creating a chunk called parent?
Thanks for the resources... this will help.
The e-book actually includes a nice tutorial for adding a contextual sub menu away from the top level navigation but it only goes 2 levels deep, whereas mine goes 3 levels deep. Still stuck..
