I already posted this over at http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,49907.0.html but now think maybe here was a better place for it, so sorry for the double post.

    Hi!

    I am brand new to modx (but am familiar with HTML, CSS and PHP) and as a beginners task thought I’d convert my simple website.
    I was very easily able to get the basic template working so 90% of my site was done in about 5 minutes. As always, it’s the last 10% that ends up taking 90% of the time.

    From a quick look at Evo vs. Revo, I’ve gone with Revo to start with since it seems to be the way of the future and it supports more stuff - does this seem like a good decision or should I switch to Evo since more things are supported there?

    Anyway what I really could use some help with is a fairly simple task using the WayFinder package. I’m following the tutorial in ’The (almost) Complete Guide to Creating Menus in MODx Using Wayfinder’ by Kongondo which is very good at explaining some basics. I am having trouble getting the WayFinder snippet to see my output template chunk, however.

    So in my template I call the WayFinder snippet like this:

    [[WayFinder? &startId=`0` &outerTpl=`topMenu` &outerClass=`menu`]]

    and then in my topMenu chunk I have this:

    <ul[+wf.classes+]>
    [+wf.wrapper+]

    Very basic stuff that I cannot see any problem with.
    But in my generated source, the [+wf.classes+] type bits are not being replaced with my menu classes and code! So viewing the source of the webpage generated by the template just shows this:

    <ul[+wf.classes+]>
    [+wf.wrapper+]

    Is there something really obvious I’m doing wrong? Is WayFinder just not supported in Revolution yet? Can anyone give me a hand?

    Thanks!
    Jo.

      Check your tag syntax in your chunks. I believe

      <ul[+wf.classes+]>
      [+wf.wrapper+]

      should be

      <ul[[+wf.classes
      [[+wf.wrapper]]

        Awesome, that’s perfect! =)
        I thought it must be something simple. Where should I be looking for documentation to explain significant differences like this between WayFinder documentation written for Evo and it’s use in Revo?

          Not sure if there’s something like that yet that’s snippet specific, but this is not just a Wayfinder difference, it’s a MODx tag syntax difference. Your first port of call should be the official docs, and for tag syntax differences specifically I would look at http://svn.modxcms.com/docs/display/revolution/Tag+Syntax
