Wayfinder not finding parent pages

Hello Modx community. sorry for the double post. somehow I am not allowed to delete this.

I am a web designer creating my first Modx template.
I am having a lot of difficulty getting the wayfinder to work in the way I need.
I am working on my local machine.

I have used the basic call: [[Wayfinder? &startId=`0` &level=`1’]]
to get the main navigation to work. None of the links work.
i have five parent sections: About, Books ,Awards, Media, Authors.
I replaced the hard coded chunk:

<ul>
<li class="li_1"><a href="about.html">about</a></li>
<li class="li_2"><a href="books.html">books</a></li>

<li class="li_3"><a href="awards.html">awards</a></li>
<li class="li_4"><a href="resources.html">media</a></li>
<li class="li_5"><a href="authors.html">authors &amp; illustrators</a></li>
</ul>


with a wayfinder code:

[[Wayfinder? &startId=`0` &level=`1’]]

All the resources pages have a matching title and URL alias name ( about, books, media,awards, etc.


the address displayed for is http://127.0.0.1/modx-1.0.2/about.html. wheni preview the page nd click on the ’about’ link But the site says
“The requested URL /modx-1.0.2/about.html was not found on this server.”
The file manger path is set to C:/Program Files/wamp/www/modx-1.0.2/

Can you tell me where I should look/what I need to fix to get the pages to display?
I am used to hard coding (absolute links).
Right now the only way I can see the new pages is to paste the url in the page and change the id .
(ie http://127.0.0.1/modx-1.0.2/index.php?id=7)

You’re trying to use friendly urls. Make sure that you have renamed ht.access in the root of your site to .htaccess and made any necessary changes. For example, since your site is inside a folder called modx-1.0.2 you will need to adjust your RewriteBase line to read: RewriteBase /modx-1.0.2/

Also in the manager, under Tools->Configuration->Friendly URLs make sure you have the friendly urls enabled.

Hello Mary. I read your blog to get started on Modx!
I attempted to make the changes and discovered there are two ht.acess files.
One in the Modx folder and one inside the manager folder .

I renamed both to .htacess and changed the higher level .htacess to include you suggested code : RewriteBase to /modx-1.0.2
I then got an internal 500 server error.
Checked the apache logs and got this message
: [Thu Apr 08 23:53:05 2010] [alert] [client 127.0.0.1] C:/Program Files/wamp/www/modx-1.0.2/.htaccess: Invalid command ’RewriteEngine’, perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration.
Doouh!

I found this post:

So I opened up the httpd.config file in the wamp apache folder
and un-commented the ’LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so’

Restarted the server and it WORKED! Woo. Hoo!

It’s still pretty confusing to newbie but I’m muddling through.
