I thought I understood this but no mater what I do my wayfinder menus go vertical and i need them to be horizontal.
You need CSS to set the menu elements to
Look at the page with Firebug in FF to see what the elements actually are.

If your <a> elements are set to display:block then you may need to set their containers (possibly <li> elements) to float:left
