Was I dreaming, or did someone post a fix to get the image browser working with FCKeditor in the front end in the last few days? After 30+ minutes of searching I’m giving up and asking for help. Sorry--too many late nights.

To be honest, I don’t think it’s a good idea to allow the use of the image browser (resource browser) for the frontend. Reason is that at the moment there is nothing that will keep a user from using the delete feature and deleting files off the server...not the sort of thing you want to allow users to do from the frontend. Is it possible to allow the use of the image browser from the frontend? Probably. Might try assigning the Advanced or Standard toolbar sets from the Configuration tab of the FCKEditor plugin under Manage Resources. But I don’t think this is a good idea.

This is one of those limitations of the resource browser that needs to change. Right now, I’m in the process of doing some preliminary work on a new resource browser. Funny you should mention frontend browsing...that’s one of the features that I’m thinking of implementing. That and the ability to allow locking out users to specific directories so they don’t haphazardly delete another user’s files. This takes a lot of pre-planning so it’ll take some time before myself or anyone else has a working version...but it is in the works. laugh

No, you weren’t dreaming! I posted that a few weeks back as a "hack" to the plugin. Not sure where it is now...

Thanks very much. I’ll give it a try.

Jeff, you have my vote for a new resource browser - mainly for the permissions issues.

Here are my two cents for Resource Browser feature requests (when browsing from FCKeditor):

            • Allow a per-page Resource URL (or @inherit from parent) and have the resource browser automatically go to the appropriate folder based on the page resource url (could be a template variable).
            • Allow write/modify access only to that folder (and its sub-folders)

In the meantime, I’ve tried using the per-user Resource URL with MODx 0.9.1, but I can’t get it to work. I also tried adding a CurrentFolder parameter to FCKImageBrowserURL in the FCKeditor plugin but couldn’t get that to work either. Does anyone have any suggestions for getting the Resource Browser to go to a specific directory (based on user or other variable)?

            Thanks

If you want a user specific resource url then you first have to create a folder for the user and then create a folder called "images" inside then user folder.

Now you can edit your user and change the resource path and resource url to point at <siteurl stuff>/assets/images/<username>/

              It works for me.  wink

                  By user i meen manager.

You are able to set the file manager path in the user settings for each manager. Create a folder on the server and type the url to that folder in the "file manager path".

If you do that - each manager only got to see their own images and files.

hope this will help otherwise i will setup an demo account on my site where i can show you what i meen.

If you want to do the same with web users then you have to make a variable and somehow set the file path when loading the fck editor. Im not sure how but good luck.

If you find a solution please share because it might come in handy later on. ;-)
