Menu with "splitters"

I have made a menu with this tutorial: http://www.muddydogpaws.com/development/wayfinder/examples/example-2.html

I have altered the CSS to fit my need. Now i want to have a picture (think it’s often referred to as a splitter) that is 4px width to appear between the menu items, to separate them from each other. From what i understand the menu is build from table rows? So perhaps make the menu generate a row with the "splitter" picture in between the menu items, have no idea how to do this though...

Thanks it helped.. One problem still though.

I have :hover on my links, and in order to make the last "split" go away he uses background: none, so it destroys the hover on last menu item

Make a transparent gif?

Why do you use a image for that? why not use border:right instead?
