A couple of things:
Wayfinder doesn’t control how your menu will be styled, i.e. whether it is a drop down or a horizontal menu, whether it’s blue or yellow, or whatever...I think you get my point. That is controlled in your CSS using floats or inline properties if you want a horizontal menu or leaving these out to get a vertical menu.
Wayfinder can insert classes in your menu (lists - ul and li) where you tell it to. There some 10 class parameters (if memory serves me right) that come with wayfinder each allowing you to specify how your menus can be styled. What you specify as the values of these classes will then have corresponding classes in your CSS. Wayfinder just puts the names of the classes you specify in you Wayfinder call into the places you tell it in your menu. For instance, &hereClass = this will allow you to, say, highlight the menu link corresponding to the specific page a web user is viewing on your site. So, in your WF call, you can have &hereClass =`current`. In your CSS you will need to have a class called current which you can style however you want. This may seem confusing at first but I recommend you have a look at the document in this link; It has detailed explanations on how wayfinder works. Go to this page -

If you want each of your menu items to be different, wayfinder can give them unique ids using the &rowIdPrefix. You can read more about this in this post:

Remember, wayfinder will output list items, where you want and how you want. Your CSS controls how those menus look. The examples in muddydogpaw are just a few of the menu types done using Wayfinder. In fact, since menus are just list items, theoretically, there’s probably no limit to menu types you can get using WF.
