Wayfinder Menu Directory Pull Problem

Thanks for reading and potentially helping me solve this problem. I have a normal website structure in place through the modx interface using templates and chunks to segment all content.

I have one side menu throughout the site, it should automatically pull the sub page titles from the parent folder (container as it’s called in modx).

I am using Wayfinder obviously to pull the sub pages and it works perfectly for the main parent webpage (the container itself), but the subpages do not populate the same subpage links regardless of how I change the wayfinder code.

[[Wayfinder? &level=`1`]] or [[wayfinder? &level=’2’]] or [[wayfinder? $startId=’id’]]

I am currently using the bold version called from within a chunk. Otherwise, it won’t be dynamic, and the end client would have to make a new manual chunk and enter any new pages, rather then letting wayfinder automatically populate the link based on someone making a new page within a directory. I would also like the parent’s pagetitle as the first link and the [[UltimateParent]] isn’t working from within the wayfinder call either. I am posting pictures for the more visually oriented.

This is what wayfinder spits out currently, but it won’t do that for subpages! This is the problem! I have to create a static chunk. The client will have a problem if they create a new sub page for information and it won’t show up on the front end.

I have a similar problem with the top navigation, but I have solved that calling static chunks. It isn’t a huge hassle, but if someone could help me with calling the "navOn" css style from within the correct page, that would be great too.

[[wayfinder? $startId=’id’]] is probably a typo: $ instead of &, and ’ instead of `. Also, MODx + PHP are case-sensitive, so you have to use Wayfinder (capital W) instead of wayfinder.

You should try [[Wayfinder? &startId=`[!UltimateParent!]`]] for the subnav.
[[Wayfinder? &startId=`[*parent*]`]] should also work, if you only have 1 sublevel.

If you use snippets inside snippets, you have to alternate the cache syntax. Either [[snippetOne? &param=`[!snippetTwo!]`]] or [!snippetOne? &param=`[[snippetTwo]]`!]
It’s a good idea to clear the modx-cache also, whenever you change stuff like that. And the browser-cache, just to be on the sure side.
