I’m trying create a simple footer with top level navigation, something like this:

    (c) 2008 ACME, Inc. All rights reserved. Home | Options | Support | Contacts

from the wayfinder documentation, it appears that I should be able to change the outer html element using $outerTPL and then pointing it at a chunk. However, when I try this, wayfinder still uses and unordered list element.

Can I do what I want to do? If so, how?

    Thanks in advance.

What is your Wayfinder call and outerTpl chunk?

$outerTPL is not a valid syntax. It should be &outerTpl=`chunk-name`.

The wayfinder call is as follows:

©2008 ACME, Inc. All rights reserved.
          [[Wayfinder? &outerClass=bottomMenu &startId=`0` &outerTpl=’bottomMenuOuter’ &rowTpl=`bottomMenuRow`]]

And the &outerTpl chunk is as follows:

          [+wf.wrapper+]

          Thanks!

Missing backticks and using single-quotes will cause your problems. Change your call:
                    [[Wayfinder? &outerClass=`bottomMenu` &startId=`0` &outerTpl=`bottomMenuOuter` &rowTpl=`bottomMenuRow`]]
