Can't get the wayfinder &displayStart to work

Hello,

I’m puzzled and can’t find what I’m doing wrong.
I like to have a subsidiary menu on the page, with different starting documents. Just a horizontal menu on the top and a vertical menu on the left, all revering to different documents.
I have to set &displayStart is true (&displayStart=`1`) and &startId is not equal zero (e.g. &startId=`9` )

I see a description of your configuration, but nothing that describes how it’s currently behaving and how you’d like it to behave differently. It’d be infinitely easier to troubleshoot if you’d supply a link too.

Web Server:

Database:

* MySQL version -- Server version: 5.0.45-community
* List of any tables over 1MB in size

MODx:

* Version -- 0.9.6.1p2
* Any changes you’ve made
* Any snippets you’re running on the page that is not working properly - Wayfinder 2.0
* Any plugins you’re running

Browser/Client:

* Browser name and version -- Firefox 2.0.0.12
* Operating System and version -- Windows XP SP2


What I try to get is a horizontal menu of 6 (parent)folders id’s 3 - 8, with images, with a different image for the active choice see: http://versvers.swdev.nl/index.htm. Than I want to get a second vertical menu from the 4 (parent)folders id’s 9 - 12, also with images, with a different image for the active choice. The horizontal menu is ok, but the vertical menu only displays the first image, not the following 3.

I’ve encountered the same problem, glad the question was spelled out in such detail.

displayStart causes the specified parent document’s menu title to be displayed in <h2> tags above the menu, which is generated and displayed as usual after the <h2> tags.

Your first call will display the first six documents with the parent of 0; so the menu will have links to the first six top-level documents as you want.

Your second call will display a menu for the first 4 documents under the parent document #9, and will put the <h2> tags with the menu title of document #9 at the top. I don’t think that’s what you wanted to have; you wanted the top-level documents (all with parent of 0) numbers 9-12, if I understand correctly.

I wan’t to display the top-level documents # 9-12.
How do I force WF to do that?

Any particular reason why those last documents can’t be moved to under document #9? Then it would work as you’ve specified in your snippet call.

Alternatively, you can use &startId=`0` &excludeDocs=`3,4,5,6,7,8` to make the menu only display the ones you want.

That was the exact answer where I was looking for.
Why is it not possible to have some simple examples Wayfinder (and/or other snippets) who everyone can use, for a basis to build on. This is one of the main missing things in the MODx package. Ok...., I know, saying this, I probably have to deliver some work myself and make some simple examples.

I didn’t interpret the &excludeDocs parameter as useful for this case and was misled by the &displayStart parameter.

Thanks again, now some CSS tweaking and I have what I wanted.

The snippets are not part of the MODx core; they are supplied by third party users. There are usually examples in the documentation, and a number of sites such as MuddyDogPaws, which showcases Wayfinder.
