Sort order not working

I have just up graded modx to 0.9.6.1p2 and now have a proble with the way wayfinder displays my links,

in the snippet i have changed the SortOrder to :
’sortOrder’ => isset($sortOrder) ? strtoupper($sortOrder) : ’ASC’, i have also tried `DESC` but it has no effect?

What MySQL version? 5.0.51?

will find out, im hosted with bt business (uk)
This is a new problem that has occured scince i upgraded, it worked fine before?

May just be coincidence; lot’s of people have been upgrading PHP and MySQL recently and running into this problem. MySQL 5.0.51 is horribly broken, yet is making it out into production configurations.

Yep, like I said, there is a very nasty bug in MySQL 5.0.51. I’d have a different version installed to avoid similar problems with other queries or even other applications.

MySQL 5.0.51 may well have bug(s)(S) - but in this regard the behaviour I’m seeing is consistent with the manual. See this message: http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,23676.0.html

I think im using MySql5 (sql5c30a) not sure if this is the correct info, and as im using bt i have not option to change

I was really surprised the other day to find another very strange bug in mySQL (only some versions, apparently): SUBSTR() sometimes fails miserably (returning null - no error) while SUBSTRING_INDEX() works. You’d think they have fixed such a common function by now, alas... if you’re using a buggy version, you’re SOL. >:(

Yeah; this was definitely a disturbing release from MySQL. They have until now been pretty good about stability, and I hope this isn’t a new trend. This is of course, no longer a bug (I’m running 5.0.54 on CentOS and all is working perfectly), but the timing was bad since everyone was finally getting around to upgrading PHP to 5.x over the last couple of months, just in time for MySQL 5.0.51 release. Now a bunch of users are stuck with a buggy MySQL despite the improvement in the PHP infrastructure. All you can do is raise awareness of the problem with your host and hope they decide to take action.
