Can't get Wayfinder to stop sorting alphabetically

I using the dropdown menu in Wayfinder and everything looks fine except that Wayfinder insist on sorting the top level items alphabetically.

I’ve tried &sortBy=`menuindex` (which is what I want) but it has no effect (and it’s supposed to be the default anyway).

Looking at the Wayfinder code, I don’t see any sorting going on except ksort($this->docs); but maybe I’m missing something.

The top-level documents are all at the same level (parent=0) and the alpha sort puts them in a very wrong order for me. :’(

Here’s the Wayfinder call:

I’m using all the regular chunks from the example at muddydogpaws. I just changed the names to avoid a collision with earlier chunks from a flyout version of the menu that are no longer used.

I had the same issue, couldn’t see a quick fix so renumbered my pages in the DB.
It always seemed to use the doc id as a sorting method!

Maybe some cache issues? (though I’m sure you checked that already...)

I had assumed that it was alphabetical but, by coincidence, sorting by doc id gives the same result so I bet you’re right.

I’ll try your method if I don’t find anything else, but it will mess up a bunch of links.

I’m afraid so. I cleared the MODx cache and the browser cache (a bunch of times). No effect.

I would be inclined to stick some echo statements in there to see what it thinks it’s supposed to be sorting by, and see where the sorting breaks down.

OK, did some more checking.

@Susan, It does know it’s supposed to be sorting by menuindex.
This part of the query string turned out to be the culprit:


When I took it out, everything worked as expected. I still don’t understand why that messed things up, why it’s there in the first place, or what trouble might occur with it gone.

@GaneshXL, Are you sure it’s working right for you? If your menuindexes are in the same order as your DOC Ids (and they often are) you wouldn’t be able to tell.

You sure you are not using XAMPP 1.6.5 or specifically, MySQL 5.0.5x? There be bugs wreaking havoc on other systems besides MODx...

And FYI, your change causes the query to avoid the bug, but could result in incorrect results due to the potential for duplicate rows being returned.

I have MySQL 5.0.51. Supposedly, the bug is fixed in 5.0.52

PS: Can I just download the new MySQL and copy the files to the mysql directory, or do I need to re-install XAMPP?
