Display newest items only

I was wondering if there was a way to make Wayfinder display only the most recently published items.

I have:

Folder 1
Item 1
Item 2
Item 3
Item 4
Item 5
Folder 2

Any I would only like to display items 3, 4 and 5 (much like ListIndexer does).

The Wayfinder menu would then be automatically updated every time a new item is published.

Is there a way to do this?

One more quick question. Is there a nice way to modify this method if I wanted to ignore the newest item (Item 5) and display only the next three (Items 2, 3 and 4)
