Company is rebranding and I need someone to create a MODX theme from a PSD file with ~ 2 week turnaround. Please contact me at [email protected] if interested.
FYI I will need a ballpark quote with line items indicating the corresponding price for that step of the work and how long you anticipate it will take you to complete.

    Thanks!

I would recommend contacting a MODx Solution Provider directly. You’ll work directly with an experienced company, and help support the MODx infrastructure along the way.

You could also create a job listing on the Help Wanted board: http://modx.com/services/help-wanted/

If I weren’t insanely busy I would be sending you a quote right now tongue

I’d like to think that there are other experienced companies and individuals that the OP can work with who aren’t necessarily MODX Solution Providers. These kind of posts and the directing of all commercial enquiries and jobs to an exclusive place seems to suggest that if one is not a Solution Partner then their skills and experience are suspect or not up to snuff. An exclusivity and hierarchy of sorts is developing here that’s honestly quite unlike anything I have seen in other open-source communities and quite off-putting (for me anyway). Just my 2c.

After having received contacts from people desperate to recover from poorly-done or abandoned work on MODx, I would have to second cyclissmo’s recommendation. While there are undoubtedly other developers and designers not on the list (for example, I’m not, simply because I never can be sure my eyes will hold up to any extensive computer work) that would be just fine, it’s like hiring a non-licensed contractor to work on your house. It may be OK, but it also may well not be, and if not you’re stuck. If you know of someone you trust, fine. Otherwise, it’s always best to go with "official" recommendations.

At the very least, if you post on the Commercial Inquiries board, check any responders against the forums. If they are active on the forums, then they are pretty sure to have a good grasp of how MODx works. If they only post to offer work, I’d wonder why they never contribute to the community.

I can understand that sentiment Mary - just the fact that some people have decided to spend money on becoming a partner (which was worth it imo, but that’s a different discussion) doesn’t mean others who didn’t have lower skill levels or shouldn’t be trusted at all.

Still - when you have decided to become a solution partner you show you are serious about it (you invest money in it) and will need to show the curators you know what you’re talking about, so you can be sure that solution partners know what they’re doing. That can’t always be said from people responding on listings or posts, though no doubt the majority of those are just fine.

I also see where Mary is coming from on this issue. She does more than her fair share for this community along with Susan, Bob, and yourself Mark (not trying to leave out the many others who I see are also not Solution Partners). I was a little concerned when I saw the existing forum topic was planning to be closed in the future. I have never been paid for any MODX work I have done (not a great deal) but I do consider MODX to be one of my hobbies. I have helped a few people for charity work which I considered worthwhile and will continue to do so. I am not trying to take bread out of developers mouths by undercutting the going prices as I know I am not capable of tackling difficult or time constrained, consuming projects. If I was making my living from MODX I may have considered becoming a Solution Partner. Luckily I am retired with time on my hands. Just adding my thoughts to the mix.

                EDIT
To come back to the original topic can you use Gimp for PSD files to get the images to use to make the templates or is this specific to Photoshop huh

Thanks for the feedback Mary (and everyone else); I totally understand your reaction. But please let me explain our rationale.

We made the decision that one of the benefits of joining the MODX Solution Partner Program is enhanced lead generation. Frankly, the leads in the forums and through the website were how we survived for so many years of bootstrapping, while continuing to share all the fruits of those efforts with the world. You’d probably be shocked at how expensive it is to fund putting out free software. Donations are not a viable funding model for us with less than $60K having been donated in 6+ years. (That doesn’t even cover the hosting bills much less the salaries of a growing group of employees scattered around the globe.)

So, part of what we have to do to continue growing and innovating is generate real currency to help cover these expenses—the Solution Partner Program is part of our revenue generating business model. Further, since we promise we don’t compete with our Partners—we will and do collaborate with them when requested for advance engineering tasks and support, another source of revenue generation—we don’t cherry pick the prime opportunities that are generated through the various MODX website properties. We pass all leads along to our Partners who are making very real investments in MODX and their business by joining the MODX Solution Partner Program.

But please don’t think for a second we’re abandoning or minimizing our commitment to Open Source and the Community. The opposite is very much true.

We’re actively continuing to share our efforts and code, and hiring for positions that are specifically Community-focused. We have some things in development specifically for the Community that we’re super-excited about and that we think everyone will really enjoy. We’re absolutely committed to continue invest tons of time, dollars and effort to foster the ever expanding Community and to continue developing, curating and sharing the tools and techniques to make everyone’s life with MODX better—whether you’re a multi-person company building a business on MODX, a budding freelancer, an enthusiastic hobbyist, someone that’s simply curious, or just a MODX site owner.

                    Ryan thanks for the response.
It has been a concern of mine since joining this wonderful community how you guys working full time survive. I am pleased that you have managed to keep the wolf from the door and I realized it was not from user contributions as these are small indeed.
I have no problem with the way you have chosen to accomplish this task.
As I have not contributed in money I am trying to give a little time to help grow this community in any way I can.
At present I am doing what I can with trying to increase the template availability for REVO.

Allan thanks so much. Money is not the only way to contribute and giving time is also an incredible way to help grow the community. Mary, Susan, Bob and others in this thread as well as far too many others to name individually have done many things both time-wise and monetarily. Thank you all so much!
