Since I started using MODX I have used title/longtitle/description rather haphazardly. In reality I’m probably just using the title and descrption primarily, with one area of my site employing longtitle.

I know these fields don’t *have* to be filled in, but I wondered if anyone has any best practice suggestions/examples of use of title and longtitle.

    Thanks
    Antony

      Hi,

That’s just a personal taste, but i like to use the pagetitle as short "internal" name, keeping in mind the alias will be generated from this field, and the longtitle as the title displayed on the pages (title/h1).
I’ll be glad to ear how other modxers use those fields too smiley

I tend to use longtitle in the <title> tags of my templates, that way I can have a SEO significant browser title for each page. Sometimes I’ll also use it as the heading for the main content of each page, but not if it’s too long, in which case I’ll use the title for the page content’s heading.

Being that the ’title’ field is what is used internally by MODX, I end up using the shortest name possible here. In fact, all of my Wayfinder calls use this as the link text, for my menus. I end up using the longtitle for the title and h1, or if I am being very careful with SEO (if they want/pay for it) I’ll use a separate field for the h1. I usually end up using introtext as the meta description field, and one of the other ones as the meta keywords. ManagerManager is amazing for this - I never have to worry about getting confused about things!

I use the title field for the website’s menu and MODX tree menu
I use longtitle field for <title> and <h1> tags
I use description field for <meta> description tag

As Susan said, sometimes it’s a good idea to use the title in the <h1> tag, expecially if the longtitle is too long, but if it isn’t I think that it’s a good idea to keep <title> and <h1> similar (for SEO purposes).

I do the same, ManagerManager is very powerful!
