    Hello everyone.

I plan to start a project with more than 1,000,000 content pages in future. As I’ve explored right here on the forums, modx EVO can’t handle that much of information, but what about REVO? Or do I need another CMS (maybe self-written) for that? Or just a super-server? smiley

Please, explain to me, how can I manage that much of information in MODX effectively, if this is real. Thanks in advance!

      Define "content pages"?

In my personal believe Revolution can handle anything.... but when talking about 1m of Resources (note: resources) the caching mechanism which may serve fine for 100K resources can start to choke. Then again - that depends on your server and the actual setup.

The problem with 1M resources is the overhead resources have by default - they have a couple of content fields, settings, access permissions and last but definitely not least any TVs you link to the template. While this will work perfectly fine if you have "only" a few thousand resources, you’ll start noticing that when you approach the million for sure.

Generally it’s best to build your own optimized database and query set up and work from there (like you would do in your custom cms). If you were to use MODX (or more applicable: xPDO) for that, you’ll get the additional bonus of inbuilt caching, a sound security system and a growing team of developers backing up the main package. You get the framework, and it’s up to you to develop the actual content in there.

And the server is really important.

I suspect you don’t have 1M individually created pages, but a series of articles/entries. If this is the case then you would want to create views for the different types of articles as MODX resources (pages) and then display those articles through those views. MODX can handle custom routes via PHP for these views too, so you could have nice pretty URLs as well. http://modx.com/can-modx-do-this.html
