I’m new to ModX. So please excuse my ignorance.

I’m looking to create a website for a local school. The kind of site that would a low level of personalization and ACL. For instance, teachers would post student reports and parents would login to check them out. Would that be easily done with ModX? Or would it involve hardcore development? I’m no developer (just a web designer), though I can do basic stuff with PHP. I used to use Joomla for most of my projects, but Joomla’s security issues have proven to be a real pain.

Thanks alot in advance for your kind tips.

If you’re looking for a canned set of Add-ons for this specific application, I’m not aware that they exist. That being said, this type of functionality could definitely be done with MODX.

        Thanks for the reply.

It doesn’t have to be out-of-a-can add-on. Do you know of any add-ons that can achieve a similar effect even they need a bit of work?

’the answer my friend is blowing in the wind’ and is of course yes (why did that lyric pop into my head?)

easy and hardcore can be the same thing - so that is hard to answer.

If you develop your own solution it is possible to get what you really want if you (in the collective sense of that word) in fact know exactly what you want, it may take longer or possibly not.

If you decide on Modx - some useful addons:
          You would obviously use ’Login’
and ’Peoples’ would probably be helpful.
Otherwise check out http://rtfm.modx.com/display/ADDON/Home to see what is available.

If you want to use a system which probably already has what you need rather than creating your own custom solution you might check out Moodle which is a CMS developed with education in mind - I have not used it recently, no call for it but the school I develop and maintain a website for uses it for internal ’stuff’ and I have not heard many complaints from the IT guy that set it up and also uses for a few classes he teaches.
