This is a bug using IE that’s been plaguing me and I’ve finally confirmed that it exists in a completely clean, basic install.

With a brand-new, clean install of 2.0.5 with TinyMCE 4.1.2-pl added using all default system settings--

--Create a RichText TV with a default output type
--Assign the TV to a basic template
--Assign the template to a basic resource, add some content into the TV, and save
--In the manager using IE (8.0.6 here) navigate away to another resource or refresh the page and return to the TV
----May have to do the above twice to see the issue, since sometimes it will appear correctly the first time

The problem: In the manager using IE, when viewing the RichText (TinyMCE) TV no content will be visible in the window unless you click in the window and start typing. This is not an issue using Firefox.

I cannot tell if this is a TinyMCE issue or a core MODx issue, and I don’t know when the problem first appeared, but I’ve now confirmed all the above. If it’s a TinyMCE issue it was also occurring in the previous version (4.1.2-rc1).

Here is my environment info:

MODx 2.0.5-pl Traditional
Linux 2.6.34.6
PHP 5.2.14
MySQL Client 5.1.52
MySQL Server 5.1.52
pdo_mysql 5.1.52

I’m trying to get this working in the front end. The editor is rendered fine and it formats the text, but all the buttons are dead (although the keyboard shortcuts seem to work).

When I click a button, I get this JS error:

Ext.getCmp("modx-panel-resource") is undefined

I tried adding <div id="modx-panel-resource"> around the page, but I still get the error.

I don’t know what else to try.

Here’s my HTML:

Hi, I would love to use the latest tinymce (3.4b2) in MODX Revo 2.0.7

There are two problems (for me) with the current tinymce version (3.3.8) that don’t exist anymore in 3.4b2:

1. When a user adds my predefined custom styles and later changes them, they all get added which may result in something like this

2. The center text button produces an inline style="display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" which stays, even when something else like align-right is clicked later.

Now I would be very happy if someone could please explain to me if and how I can update tinymce myself.
Or is there any place where this is already explained?

I tried already to simply overwrite all the files in assets/components/tinymce/jscripts/tinymce/ with the latest version, but I still dont get the latest version to appear in the backend.

I’m having troubles installing this package from the repository, in the error log I see the following:

Ok I found the answer!
I should have read the details in the Package manager....
Changing the "archive_with" option in the system preferences did the trick...

Installation Instructions

Install via Package Management.

If you’re having issues installing, make sure you have the latest ZipArchive extension for PHP, and that it’s properly configured, or set the "archive_with" System Setting to Yes.

Suggestion for future development

I just saw this great TinyMCE add on for spelling and grammar suggestions: http://www.afterthedeadline.com/download.slp?platform=TinyMCE. If this could be packaged with the TinyMCE package or as a separate package I think this would be a great addition.

I just added this plugin manually and here are the steps to do it:

1. down load the plugin: http://www.afterthedeadline.com/download.slp?platform=TinyMCE and unzip to:
/assets/components/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins/
- note change the folder name from atd-tiny to atd once you unzip it.

2. now (this is a hack) open up /core/components/tinymce/tinymce.class.php on after line 31 insert the code below. Note change the MYSITE string to your website hostname.

3. Now log into the manager and go to System -> System Settings and sort by tinymce
4. Now add AtD to Custom Plugins and Custom Buttons Row 1, make sure they save!

And now it should work!
