A basic CSS drop-down menu is very simple to do using the default nested unordered list that Wayfinder generates. Wayfinder even automatically provides "last" classnames for the last items in a list, and "active" class for the current page and its parents by default, so you can style these as you wish.

Wayfinder also provides a ’parent’ class for the parent of a page and there are many more possibilities.
Its just a matter of a little css.
Any ’css driven’ drop down menu based on nested lists (as I believe most are) can easily be adapted to Modx - in fact it is not really a modx thing - modx + wayfinder create a nested list from the resource tree which can easily be customized with ids or classes and then its just standard css - just as it would be for a static html page.
It is one of the beauties of Modx - html and css are ’normal’ no special different syntax just a few tags to place content.
So you don’t need to port a menu creator to Modx, Wayfinder easily creates a standard nested (or unnested) ul based menu - you just have to create some css, or match up/rename id and class names from an web example menu (an example of which was posted by sottwell - or you could just examine the code from your favorite menu) to the id/class names provided by Wayfinder.
