DirectResize is a plugin that create thumbnails in real time for the content images using Highslide JS. HighSlide is a JS similar to lightbox / greybox / slimbox and many others but I prefere the Style much more. Instead of poping up and fading out the website it give the user the feeling not to seperate the photo from the page. PRE-REQUIREMENT: I take no Credit for the HighSlide Script. The only thing you have to do is to insert image and resize the image, and a thumbnail will be created automatically, it is very useful when your image takes up space.

tried to download it via PM and error report says: error while connecting to provider, no package found.

why the DirectResize working on all image outside default images folder

Anybody knows if this plugin is still actively developed by VRTC or someone else?
Why is it marked as deprecated?

This one is marked as deprecated as two days later a newer version was uploaded, unfortunately this was also called 1.0.1-rc3, hence the confusion.

However I don’t think it’s been actively developed by VRTC as I have suggested a couple of updates towards the end of last year, to no avail. http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php?topic=56404 For example it’s packed with an old version of Highslide.js which didn’t work for me on Chrome.

I’m just wondering about dipping my toe into the development side with this as I think it’s a cracking extra. I really like highslide and think it’s got many good features which this extra could exploit. So if I don’t get any response over the next few weeks I might have to see what I need to do to progress it.

In the meantime if you have any questions then please ask as I’ve worked my way through most of the code, fortunately it’s fairly short easy one to follow.

Thanks for your answer and your offer to answer my questions.
I just wanted installed the package, but I keep getting a list of errors.
I disabled a few plugins and snippets without improvement.
But if the plugin works for you on Revo (2.0.7) than maybe I will try it tomorrow on a fresh install.

The plugin works fine for me, although I’ve tweaked it slightly.

In your listing the warning is just that a warning, it shouldn’t stop the plugin working. As it says the function eregi_replace has been deprecated, that was one of my updates replacing these bits with preg_replace() which removes these warnings.

The fatal error - line 60 is the bit creating the resized image. If it’s reporting an out of memory problem then this could be for a couple of reasons. Either your hosting area is limited on memory, although it references a C: drive so is this on a local machine? Maybe clearing out the cache may help. Alternatively in the setup of the plugin there is an error in defining the height and width of the image and it’s trying to create a large image. Have you set the max width and height paramters in the plugin - try reducing them to something like 800x600 to begin with and see if that works.

Really the code should check available memory before trying to create the image - maybe somethig to add to the todo list!

I tried it now on a fresh install and it works fine now.
(I had no time to do this earlier)

One thing I need to know now is where can I give a fixed thumbnail size in the plugin?
It looks to me as a non coder as if the plugin would check for an existing style, but it doesn’t work for me.

My styles just limit the image through css. No new image is created this way.
.container-50 img {width:450px;}
.container-33 img {width:300px;}

When I change the size manually a new image is created of course.
But I would love to create these 2 kinds of thumbnail images automatically somehow, so that the user has nothing to do with any resizing.

Also I would like to recreate the big highslide image with a max width or height of 800px.

And one last question is: Can I change the jpg compression rate somewhere?

Any help is very much appreciated.

Hi,

Sorry I’ve not checked the thumbnail size via defined styles so I don’t know why that isn’t working. The thumbnail size is more defined by how you create the resource rather than the DirectResize plugin. For example I use TinyMCE and use the image editor to insert images. When you do this you can define the size of the image, see attached screenshot. So I upload my full size image and then let the TinyMCE editor restrict it to 200px.

With the plugin settings this was another of my suggestions for an upgrade. It would be nice to have the parameter settings for the plugin appear on the tab with the plugin. Unfortunately as packaged this is blank. Instead you have to go the the manager menu, select System and then System Setting. In the dropdown selection box which currently reads "core", select it and you should be able to select DirectResize.

This will then list the parameters associated with the plugin, see the second screenshot attached. Of these settings there should be "Max. Height" and "Max. Width" which you can use to set the maximum sizes the images will be expanded to. There is also a parameter called "jpg quality" which sets the jpg compression ratio.

Thanks, I’ve looked for the settings in the plugin only and didn’t look in system settings. I still have to get used to Revo.

The first part with changing the size through tinymce is unfortunately no option for me, because the site will be edited by real noobs.

I will consult me newly aquired php book this week and try to find out if I can set a fixed size for the thumb in the plugin. If I’ll succeed I will report it here.
