I think that we are not talking about the same thing.

What i mean by global TVs, is actual TVs but available from any template (ideally bind to a resource type which is not possible atm).

It means that setting up a Global TV would be the same as setting an actual TV, showed in the same tab (element - and for now classified with all the other TVs) and in every resource edit page.

That’s why i talked about a plugin so that if i create a new template, the global TVs are automatically set accessible for it (since there are no real global TVs for now).

The goal is to allow dynamic custom field available gloabally.

If i want a global static setting i would rather use system setting natively and the tag to retreive it [[++setting_name]]

Yeah I think we are talking about different things tongue

Is there any way (form customisation?) to restrict a user’s access to only certain system settings? I wouldn’t want them to have access to anything that would break the site.

        I’d love this as well...
Basically a easy to manage menu option with page wide settings.
Some clients really don’t want to go to elements > Chunks... (too technical)

It would be cool the have all of the page wide settings were implemented in a TV like way...

              Nice lolotlm,

No very developper friendly but definitively a good solution until something better comes out.

                I want to believe wink

I am not a developer, self-taught in my work.

And modx is impressive for not developper people.

in the same kind of development :

                i use uncos News
                http://modx.com/extras/package/uncosnews

for create page without to be present in the modx tree

i add in htaccess these lines :

                 RewriteRule ^annuaire/information-([0-9]+).html$ /annuaire.html?id=$1 [L]

                before these lines

                  RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
                  RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d

and i create one ressource "annuaire"
i catch the id via a snippet and i generate the html page

i d’ont if it’s good, but work smiley

TVs are designed to have different values for each page, so they’re not a good choice for site-wide settings.
System Settings are made for that. The trick is to create a user interface to let users set a subset of them.

If you want a TV to be attached to all new templates, you should be able to do that with a plugin.

@Bob - do you know if there’s a way to limit a user’s access to some system settings, but not others? In this case it would be nice to let them update phone numbers, etc but certainly not anything more technical than that!

Not directly, but you could create an interface in the front or back end that would only show them the a subset of the settings
