Support/Comments for Easy 2 Gallery 1.4.0-RC1

@Pete On your screenshot of the two images popping up in Slimbox, did you notice one of them has that typo, "Im1age 2 of 8," and the other doesn’t? I wonder if that could help you find the error in the code?

I tried both Slimbox 1.71 and 2.03, and didn’t get a double box or typo with either.

I and Pete have find out that it came from the DirectResize, not from Easy 2 Gallery.
He used DR with slimbox, too.

Basic problem: I´m not getting any images displayed at all

I´ve installed e2g, including the latest update 1.4.0-rc1-r259. As far as I can tell it´s installed correctly. At least the Manager displayed the message "Sucessfull install", including the "delete install folder" which I clicked. The path for the images is set correctly in the "config" pane of e2g.

But I have to admit that the install/upgrade instructions:

(quote) ...3. Create new module, name it anything (Eg: Easy 2 Gallery), type this one line code:

include_once MODX_BASE_PATH . ’assets/modules/easy2/index.php’; (unquote)

is difficult to understand. Of course, this could be the problem

I´ve created a very basic localhost template, with a basic call to e2g in the main content area. With the call to e2g I´m getting a blank page. Without the call to e2g I´m getting my basig html page.

This is my first serious go with any CMS, coming from a pure html/css background.

So, you mean, you have already installed this, and you didn’t know that it was a Module?

the call on the document/resource page is [!easy2!]

make sure you have uploaded at least 1 picture, and Synchronize it.

If you’re totally new to MODx, here’s the basics on how to implement the piece of instructions you highlighted. (I would think if you got the ’install’ working you probably already got this right, but just in case...)

In your manager, click on the ’Modules’ tab, then ’Manage Modules’. In the top right corner, click the button that says ’New Module’. Type ’Easy 2 Gallery’ in the ’Name’ field, and I’d recommend the version in the ’Description’. The module code goes down below in the code box. Click ’save’.

Sorry if that’s too basic, but sometimes you just don’t even know where to start and the advanced users skip the beginning.

I was wondering if anyone has tried this on Revolution 2.0 yet and if not how much work you think would be required to get it to work. I would be happy to have my developers contribute to allow it to happen.

goldsky: Confirming I know this is a Module. Under the Modules pane "Easy2Gallery" is displayed. When I click it, five panes with sub-content appears. The panes are "Files/Image upload/Comments manager/Config/Help". I have seven .jpg images in the "Files"-pane, they are synhcronized & Cache is cleared.

k4satin: I do believe I followed the install instructions to the letter. But I do get a bit uneasy when you say "The module code goes down below in the code box." According to the install instructions the content was unzipped into the root of my site. In the "Module code" window I pasted in " include_once MODX_BASE_PATH . ’assets/modules/easy2/index.php’; "

In my template´s main content div I have the call [*content*] . While in the site page the code [!easy2!] is used. And the site page is referring to the correct template.

I hope this description can help figuring out what I´m doing wrong. I realize it can be bit of a pain figuring out what level I´m at since this is my first MODx project, and as a consequence my description of what I´m doing might be relatively wague...

It sounds like you’re doing things right. When you enter other content on the site page (resource content), does it show up on your live page? That’s an easy test to see if there is a problem with your template vs. with Easy2. The content placeholder is often used like this: [*#content*] , but I think the difference with # is just for Quickedit.

If other content shows up and it’s just a problem with Easy2, you might want to try specifying the gallery id where your pictures are (substituting ID with the folder number for your files): [!easy2? &gid=`ID`!]

The other problems I ran into were:

1. magic_quotes need to be turned off again, even though I’d edited php.ini on install - I think it was after I moved the MODx install from a sub-folder to root

2. The QuickManager plugin was interfering with my js calls, so I turned it off in the front end.

Beyond that, I defer to the coding guys!

Unfortunately, I´m still struggling...

- I tried this one [*#content*] iso [*content*]
- I tried intentionally breaking the code by removing one of the brackets in the "Edit Resource" window, ie !easy2!]. Then my basic testlayout shows up just fine with css assigned colours in the different div´s, and with the text "!easy2!]" in the content area. When I put the bracket back in again (ie [!easy2!] ), ALL content is gone and I´m getting a 100% blank page only :’(
- In the documentation I did find a referrer to a php 2MB max filesize limit. My images are 3-4 MB large. I tried pasting in the suggested code: php_value upload_max_filesize 40M in the .htaccess file (note: I found two .htaccess files: One in [root]/, and one in [root]/manager/. According to instructions I pasted in the code into the one in [root]/manager.

- The note about turning magic_quotes off is completely unknown to me? Is this where the devil lies?
- I also assume that easy2 is making all neccessary calls to external scripts, that the html template doesn´t need to include specific calls to highslide etc.

Additional info: I see the Module is making a _thumbnail folder in the folder hierarchy. But there are no images inside this folder.
