    New Forum Organization

We’re undergoing a ton of changes for the better that will affect the Community. The first thing you’ll see is a reorganized forums centered around a few key topics:

    • General—Catch all category for many topics not covered below
    • Revolution—all releases and Revo-specific Add-on support will go here, and general Revo-specific dev topics
    • Evolution—same as above but for Evo. This will also see all Versions through 1.0 put into an archive/unsupported category.
    • International—We’re really going to focus on fostering better and more non-English communications around the world. This is the first step.
    • Partner—A decicated private discussion forum just for MODX Solution Partners

The new forums will start by some of the reorganization happening on the current boards, but will be completed with our new forums re-launch on our own native MODX Discuss Add-on. We’ve been in development with this for a long time and all the existing posts will still be accessibly. Notably though, the search will actually be quite good. If you’d like an early peek at the new forums for feedback and to play around, we’ll start a new thread with information and to take a few dozen folks to help us vet and verify the work. The new forums will use the same login as the modx.com site itself, and you’ll be able to merge your SMF account into your MODX user profile. During the migration, we expect the forums to be offline for roughly 8 hours.

    Putting Some Topics to Bed

Along with the forum reorganization, you’ll see some topics archived. Here’s some of the current plans for archiving for posterity, or possibly deleting altogether:

    • Commercial Inquiries & Bounties—These topics will be served via the Help Wanted system on the main MODX website
    • You & Your Sites—The MODX Site Showcase is a great way to show off your MODX Website to the world. You can make announcement posts about this in the General MODX category
    • Flame Bait—if a topic gets a bit heated or violates the terms, it will be removed from public view or Moderated appropriately in the future. There’s been very few instances where this was needed honestly. Probably will delete this sub-board entirely.
    • Documentation Suggestions & Corrections—now via Docs @ Redmine
    • Wishlist—now via Revo @ Redmine or Evo @ Redmine
    • modxcms.com Discussions & Suggestions—now via Website @ Redmine

    Preparing for Revo 2.1

Also in the very near future Revolution 2.1 will be released. 2.1 fixes lots of bugs, introduces support for additional databases and optimizes the core and caching layers significantly. Part of this included removing some long-deprecated MODX Evolution API methods, constants and class properties, which speeds up the core performance considerably.

What this means is that some Revolution Add-ons will break if they use this removed code. Thankfully, converting to the Revolution equivalents is straightforward, and Mike Schell created a handy guide to help on this front with his Summary of Legacy Code Removed in 2.1. Please help us update the Revo Add-ons for the upcoming release!

The Solution Partner Program is Here

Finally, the MODX Solution Partner Program is really starting to take off. If you’re a service provider, you really should consider becoming a Partner. If you need help with a MODX project, the MODX Solution Partners are the ones to go to. You can get help from Partners by either posting smaller projects on the Help Wanted page, or privately Request a Quote for more confidential engagements.
