Context settings are a perfect way to manage site level variables when managing many site contexts. I’d like to be able to define a site level context setting from a specific list of options instead of a manual text field. The use case is that our tracking system depends on the value being exact and there is too much margin for error if someone is entering free text into the field.

Is there any way to define an option list like this at the top level and not as a page specific tv ?

    Thanks,
    -Brian

Let’s see if I understand what your trying to do here.

So you basically want to have lets say a site settings page that contains the information pertaining to a specific site.

If that is the case then yes you can do it with Form Customization and use template variables to have the drop down list that the user can then select this setting for the specific site they are on.

      Is that what you mean?

I’m not totally clear on what you want, but if Settings had a "list" type (as Properties do), you could create a drop-down list of options. It would be a nice feature request: http://bugs.modx.com/

I think I am actually asking 2 things...
          1. Can you use a list type option on the standard context settings (system settings?). Sounds like the answer is no, it’s a feature request.
          2. Is there some other way to accomplish the same thing. Maybe using custom forms? Would there by a way to add a menu option that would appear with a right click of the context name and have this link to a custom page with all of the site specific settings?

          Thanks,

            1. I’m pretty sure it’s a feature request. wink

            2. I can’t think of an easy way. You might be able to create a front-end form with FormIt (with a drop-down list or radion buttons) and a hook that wrote the system settings when the form was submitted, but I’m pretty sure the system settings are cached, so the change wouldn’t appear until the cache was cleared and a new request was issued.
