So, I searched the forum for something related to this question, and found a few things mentioning how modx can integrate with a Wordpress blog, but this may be a slightly different topic:

We currently use modx for our company web site. It’s been a little buggy on the admin side, but it looks good to the readers. However, recently, our developer suggested that we consider having our site use Wordpress instead of modx. I guess a couple things we were unaware of are that:

-You can host a Wordpress site on something other than Wordpress’ servers (i.e. our own host of choice)

-An entire site (not just blog) can be built upon Wordpress such that our non-programmers can easily make content edits without messing up the layout, etc.

Realizing I’m possibly opening a can of worms here, can someone please inform me of the basics:

-Can an entire site be hosted on Wordpress such that the look and feel is exactly what we have currently using modx?

-Aside from the fact that Wordpress is apparently easy to maintain once built, (why or why not) would we want to do this?

Not trying to start a war on who’s the better team here, just get the basics. Thanks for your input.

Update: I have of course continued to search since my posting, and there are many articles outside of this forum that address differences between CMS platforms including modx and Wordpress. So, I’ll be reading them. No worries about responding to my previous post wink

To be honest, those seem like questions you might be better off asking on the WordPress forums smiley

Can an entire site be hosted on Wordpress such that the look and feel is exactly what we have currently using modx?
I haven’t used WP extensively so can’t say for sure, but it’s my impression that templating is not as flexible as it is in modx. That goes for any other CMS I’ve tried, actually! However with a developer who knows his way around WordPress it should be possible. Bear in mind that you will probably need to know a fair bit of php though, depending on what you want to achieve.

As for hosting - if you want a custom WP site then I think you have to host it on your own server.

Aside from the fact that Wordpress is apparently easy to maintain once built, (why or why not) would we want to do this?
Well, I thought MODx was easy to maintain too wink As to why you would want to do this... why do you want to do this? You’d have to ask yourself in what areas is the current MODx site proving difficult to manage, what you would like to improve, and then see if WP could pick up those shortfalls. It may be that, with a few tweaks here and there, your modx setup could be improved to the point where you don’t need to go through the cost and inconvenience of migrating to a new CMS.

Definitely read through some of those suggested posts. Also, ask the developer why he is so keen to move to Wordpress. It might make sense if you want to run a blog-based site, but if you’re likely to need some custom functionality at some stage you’d probably be better off staying put. I’m sure others will chime in on this too, but ask as many questions as you like here and I guarantee you’ll get helpful answers...

            Cheers!
