Im finding it so difficult to get my blog to work properly. Have tried numerous instructions from books, this site, and other forums, but they all fail to deliver at one point or another...

This is so fustrating, huh dont even know where I should be posting this here or in the ditto section,

should I be using ditto or NewsPublisher??- which by the way doesnt come modx evo 1.0.4 either, so that caused some issues, works ok, but doesnt show posts. Its impossible to learn when posts point to code that isnt relevant anymore either.

Im still fairly new to all this, but want to get into it more, but dont know where to turn.

What exactly are you having trouble with? If you tell us how far you’ve gone, what you’ve done so far, what versions of MODx and snippets that you’re using, etc. and then pinpoint specific issues that you’re running into, we will be better able to help where we can.

Incidentally, if you’re using Evo, I recommend you use 1.0.5.

For aggregating your posts, use Ditto for MODx Evo and getResources for Revolution
For commenting, see Jot for Evo and Quip for Revo
For paginating your posts, Ditto has a &paginate parameter, and for Revo use getPage
      etc etc

Im working in modx evo 1.0.4, do you think 1.0.5 is much better, would rather not change just now, I have several sites running on this.

originally working from Modx Web Development book by PACKT. Managed to get the NewsPublisher snippet elsewhere and then carried on a bit more
        so code on blog page:

        [!NewsPublisher? &folder=`123` &makefolder=`1` &formtpl=`blogform` &template=`blog2` &clearcache=`1` &rtcontent=`tvBlogRT`!]

which shows the form on the page fine, and seems to be creating a post, but goes straight back to home page after creating a post, viewing the blog page doesnt show the post.

Do you want to see all the chunks Im using?

1.0.5 is an upgrade of 1.0.4 and contains important security fixes, so it’s important to upgrade.

Unfortunately I don’t use Newspublisher, but if you post someone else may be able to help you out. The book is a little dated unfortunately so you may benefit from reading the official docs and asking on the forums here.

ok, still struggling. undecidedhave gone back to http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/Basic_Blog#Resources
            and folowed this

What is happening now is once the blog has been posted redirected to a non templated (styles page with black and white comment form on, rather than the post showing on the blog page

thanks for the advice einsteinboi, will look at upgrading once I get through this

              Hi Ruth

I created a blog in both Evolution and Revolution and own a copy of the book you mentioned so I hope I can help.

When you say "...which shows the form on the page fine, and seems to be creating a post"

Do you need specifically need a form on a web page to pupolate your Blog? I found it much easier to create any blog posts through the ModX manager when logged in to the backend.

No not really, the main issue Im having is the blogs themselves not displaying after they are initially created.

what happens is when the blog is entered on here it goes to a blank page with just the content in and then nothing.

Also tried the next book latest modx book published feb 2011(via packt’s monthly membership)
Hes now using NewsEditor snippet, though this only shows the content of the blog, and briefly ie if you refresh it disappears but is at least on a template page.

What I would like is for the blogs to show on screen- after they are created and stay there- on a new page if necessary called blog for example.
                any ideas?
