Support/Comments for getField

You can install getfield without the resource wizard just like any normal snippet.

Hey, everything working. I have page with ID 6 and it’s using template Special and that template has several TVs that I call with [!GetField? &docid=`6` &field=`TVname`!] but one TV is image and that one doesn’t work: http://amaru.com/index.php (see the special offer image).

I also tried to add TV with default value @FILE /path/to/file.jpg but that gave me exactly same unsuccessful result.

Well, you need to wrap the image tag around the TV-value. In your template, use

<img src="[*tvname*]" />

instead of just
[*tvname*]

Huh I gotta go bed before I ask more silly questions....

does GetField work with ditto?
1. I get the grandfather ID of current document :
[!GetField?&parent=`1` &parentLevel=`2`&field=`id`!] assume this will return value of 65
2. I used Ditto to retrieve information :
[[Ditto?&parents=65 &summarize=`10`.....]] this will return the children of document with ID= 65

now i combine 1 & 2 as follow:
[[Ditto?&parents=[!GetField?&parent=`1` &parentLevel=`2`&field=`id`!] &summarize=`10`.....]]
this doesn’t work! more exactly it doesn’t recognize the value returned from [[Getfield]] snippet, so it return the children in the root folder by default.
can someone so me the solution?

Looks like you forgot the backticks around the GetField snippet:

[[Ditto? &parents=`[!GetField?&parent=`1` &parentLevel=`2`&field=`id`!]` &summarize=`10`.....]]

btw, you could also use the UltimateParent snippet for this, I believe...

I have tried with and without backticks, but nothing better, I’ll give UltimateParent a go.

Hey my buddy, Ditto treated with with UltimateParrent snippet the same way it have done with GetField snippet.
are there any other suggestions?

I’d really like to be able to get field values in documents that are unpublished. Any ideas please?

This seems to be a limitation of the API function $modx->getDocument() which is used in the getfield snippet (line 34 of getfield.inc.php)

It is currently not possible to search for all documents regardless of publish or deletion state.
