sorry just noticed my subject was mistyped

Hi there can anyone help, have been using for a few months and am now trying to get rss feeds into the site ie using others rss feeds such as bbc news etc.
Ths issue I have is that while I have tried and got several of the ones listed on the modx download site to work, I can only see the title of the feed and need to show some of the content, but am not sure how best to do this.
so far have tried feedex, newsparserx and can only see the title, on the feedex it also is showing the date and time of each.
if anyone can help taht would be great as Im struggling on this.

Im using Modx Evolution v 1.0.4

Havent posted here before so if theres anything Ive missed please let me know

Ok have given up on the other methods and have now found a snippet /php code that works. Just need to figure out what the orginal guy menat in the instructions and Im there.

http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,11765.msg166503.html#msg166503

Hes called it RssReader and it works, simples, the only issue now is the articles/news shown on screen are way too long, and not being a programer I cant figure out how Im supposed to use the param hes given.
After that if I could make it scroll, I would be one happy bunny kiss

Hi, you could use this in your snippet call:
&rss_DescSplit=`50`

Which will limit your description to the first 50 characters then append an ellipsis (...)
Change the number if you want more or less characters.

Thanks for replying.

I did manage to get it working by adding *&rss_DescSplit [integer = 30]in the snippet call in the template after the url ref.
And got the whole thing to scroll using very basic <marquee> html tag.

Still not 100% sure if Im supposed to edit just the code in the template and or the snippet as well. I have edited some of the code as it was showing the title twice for instance.

Just trying out different feeds now

The only issue Im having now is if I try a feed that has a ’?’ in the link, which it doesnt seem to like and I get a modx parse error.
Any Ideas?

Most snippets intended as add-ons are designed so you shouldn’t have to edit the snippet itself. However if you know a little php and need to customise or extend it in any way then dive right in!

I haven’t used this snippet before but you could try replacing the ’?’ with ’%3F’ or ’?’ and see if that makes any difference...

Also, I’m very surprised that it worked with this: &rss_DescSplit [integer = 30]

To help avoid possible parsing errors in future, you should get into the habit of writing your snippet calls like this:
Uncached:
[!RssReader? &urlrss=`http://....`!]
Cached:
[[RssReader? &urlrss=`http://....`]]

Note especially the backticks (`) surrounding each parameter. Catches a lot of people out smiley

Did you just paste those right into your template? They were only meant as examples of proper snippet syntax smiley

I was referring to the alternatives for the ’?’ without the ’s

"....try replacing the ’?’ with ’%3F’ or ’?’ and see if that makes any difference"
