Just setup FormIt for the first time. I was using SPForm for everything, which is a nice package complete with pre-built MODX resources and snippet calls included for fast, easy implementation. However, I was finding minor bugs that grew as my sites got more complex. Enter FormIt. Seems to be VERY robust and customizable. Why didn’t I use it before?
The FormIt documentation (found here: http://rtfm.modx.com/display/ADDON/FormIt) begins with a chat about snippet parameters and hooks. Also mentions you need to build your own form. Having not done so much work on a form since eForm in Evo, my eyes started glazing over.
What shot me over the learning curve was Mary’s tutorial at Coding Pad:
http://codingpad.maryspad.com/2011/03/08/modx-revolution-for-complete-beginners-part-9-using-formit-for-contact-forms/
After practicing with her setup, I found the tutorials in the FormIt documentation (http://rtfm.modx.com/display/ADDON/FormIt.Examples.Simple+Contact+Page) WAY easier to understand and implement. In the end, I didn’t use Mary’s example code, but she made it real easy to get my feet wet.
FormIt is a great snippet and (in the end) a cinch to setup. Hats off to Shaun McCormick, the MODX Team, and Mary!
